Joseph J. Bonocore

Professor of Entrepreneurship, Boise State University

Joseph J. Bonocore has built a career across more than four decades and three distinct paths: military service, business leadership, and academia.

A decorated U.S. Army officer and veteran of the Vietnam era, he continued a family tradition of military service that spans five generations.

His business career took him from a finance role at General Electric to Managing Partner at two major international consulting firms, Coopers & Lybrand and KPMG, where he spent 26 years advising executive leadership teams through disruption, restructuring, and reinvention. He then founded and served as CEO of four technology companies, each acquired by an international technology firm.

Today he is a Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at Boise State University, where he teaches "Managing Change in a Knowledge Based Economy." His classroom has become a laboratory for the ideas in his books.

His work is organized under one idea, Building What Lasts, in two book series: Leading in the Corporate Storm, for executive leaders navigating permanent disruption, and Through the Storm: The Italian-American Journey, rooted in his upbringing in South Philadelphia's Little Italy.

"Whether it's a company or a community, the pattern is the same: nothing survives change by accident. It survives because someone, generation after generation, did the deliberate work of building it to last."
